– Since 2020 –

Grow Wānaka

Grow Wānaka was established in 2020 by passionate like-minded locals wanting to create a common space for people to connect, learn, share and grow.

Grow Wānaka is a community garden, composting centre, and education hub. Our project works to enhance community resilience, food security, minimise waste through organics recycling, and expand knowledge and skills through educational opportunities.

Grow Wānaka operates on a circular model by accepting food waste from our urban centre and converting it into biologically active compost. The compost is used to grow organic produce in the garden, which is then shared among our volunteer team with weekly surplus distributed to our local Food Bank and Upper Clutha Produce Pantries. Education is also a huge part of what we do.

We run weekly working bees, monthly workshops and events, and collaborate with many community organisations to provide a wide range of opportunities for everyone to get involved.
